* Picking up from the last link(or 2) in the last post I must note the biased(although that is relative)source(mediaite) and dig out the Paul Krugman and Peter G. Peterson sources above. And I have to say that there is no comparison to the "gotcha journalism" of recent controversy. Commissioner Simpson was the aggressor who stood his ground in error or at least two worlds, confusing the IOU's with the Lock Box. i.e. the double hit is not, except for the interest that is robbing Paul to not pay Peter. No pun on sources, but I must note that we have a strange convergence of agreement, Simpson must go or actually be used to school the debate. But I will unthread these sources to D-Day(the Derivatives article) in Progressive Breakfast with a side of Simpson a link to Krugman, and from him to The Fiscal Times(of Peter G. Peterson). Has one ever seen such bipartisan agreement that Simpson should go for several reasons?[bold added 1-31-11] But does it not boil down to this? The double hit is really a double pick pocket or some such farther from faith and credit to government.

Rachel is no Jon Stewart, Olbermann is no Glenn Beck, Matthews is no "fair and balanced", and Ed Schultz is no Rush, though he does get flush at times. It is about the dialogue, even if it is grand sitting at times.]

While my original intent was the feeling that this is getting old, or rather childish. Then to see the nature of the exchange on Morning Joe, it takes some perspectivising.* Martin Bashir covers another aspect of the picture show. Back to the future, I mean Morning Joe, who is in the drivers seat? Mika or Joe? The image of President Obama getting into a car at an auto show. Who is in the drivers seat? Politically the President is. But it is like one of those drivers-ed cars with a second wheel and brakes on the passenger side, and congress is in that seat. But with Batman, I mean Bashir on West, Republicans would have no message if they did not have imagined monsters: "equality of achievement", "economic dependency"and "enslaving".

So...bottom line, Political is a double-edged sword. There is the race and there is the economy. Congress plays a role in both, and negative is not just ugly, it can have actual facts. So Mika can say that Obama is behind the wheel. And Joe can say he is not. Now you may see that the president is not the only one in the car, with a hand on the wheel.

Give an inch?

Going “incremental” is intriguing as long as it is not robbing Peter to pay Paul. It may be worth considering the “Option 5” of a 2002 Treasury Dept. study which involves lifetime savings and retirement accounts. It is thought that the administration will hold off on radical tax reform until the social security and budget are dealt with. Those are big ifs (period). (edit: 1-3-05)<em>DELETE(or rather “until”s.) [A more careful reading shows they were only ifs. ] They are also somewhat tied to any tinkering with taxes.

It may be worth giving an inch as long as we don't pay for a mile. But that is dangerous if too many hope to have their cake and eat it too.
